UNDRCRWN has been going at it for some time now, creating apparel influenced by both the hardwood floor and music. It just happens that these two shirts channel inspiration from two of Chicago’s finest — his Airness and Common (I Used to Love H.E.R.). Retail $28
Bam! A 4ft x 3ft speaker in the living room certifies your status as an “audiophile.” It probably will also scare the pants off your neighbors when they see it being delivered. This is the most powerful iPod speaker in the world and the first generation is already sold out. Fortunately you can pre-order the second generation. Keep two things in mind, it’s handmade and it weighs over 200 lbs. This is not a toy. Retail $4,495
I’ve been looking for a sleep/wake alarm clock app for awhile now. TimeTuner seems to fit the bill and the cool thing is it’s synced with RadioTime, which features 14,000 radio stations. Back in the day I use to set my clock’s sleep mode to DJ Big Daddy Victor Saragosa, he played all the 80′s and 90′s R&B slow jams. You’d be surprised how fast a Keith Sweat song can put you into a deep slumber. Retail $4.99
Woot woot! A turntable that converts your records into MP3s. Simply just plug in your USB flash drive or SD card and let the turntable work its magic. Retail $129
If you need a good laugh and want to feel warm inside, watch this brilliant improv performance at a grocery store in Queens, NY. The Improv Everywhere team orchestrated a surprise musical that caught all the shoppers off guard. Enjoy!
If you’re a fan of music, the King has had an influence on what you’re rocking on the playlist. Similarly, MJ has been an inspiration to many artists of this time. So as a tribute to Michael and the Jackson 5, Universal Motown has called upon some of these musicians to put their spin on the music. Some of you may feel that these tracks fail to do justice and you’re probably right because no one can imitate the King. But it’s still fun to listen to how the Neptunes and Steve Aoki would’ve produced these tracks.
The highly anticipated adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are opens today. We’ve all seen the trailers and the visual work is amazing. To accompany the experience of being a kid all over again, Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and her friends put together a nice soundtrack. Some tracks are pure melodies and some take sound bytes from the movie to retell the story through music so to speak.
